I met Mrs. L. S. (Marie) Orrick in the Fort Worth Public Library and she sent me the following information on Wells: "This is information which was sent me by a Wells descendant and must have come from a family Bible."

David Sloan Wells was born Dec. 16, 1815 in Tenn. married Mary Hankins. Children: Jones, William Harrison, Thomas S., Harry, Henry, Fred, D. S., Mary, Margaret (married a Lytle).

1850 Arkansas Mortality Schedule - Drew County

David Wells 78 born N. C. died November 1849 Flux ill 60 days

WELLS CEMETERY located west of Monticello in Drew Co., Ark. and is in a wooded area. Those Wells buried with headstones were:

Horatio Wells, surgeon, Spanish American War 1860/1948

Annie B. Wells 1858/1915

Wm. H. Wells 1871 age 65 years David S. Wells 1815/1876

Louisa, wife of David S. Wells 1828/1874 Samuel M. Wells 1841/1867

Mrs. Orrick also said that the 1800 tax record of Montgomery Co.# Tenn. listed David Wells in the Yellow Creek area

Carol Wells, don't you believe this is the David Wells who with your Martin Wells Jr. were Administrators for the Estate of Martin Wells Sr. You also found the widow and children of Martin Wells in Dickson County, Tenn. on Yellow Creek. Mrs. Orrick said she next found David Wells in Dickson County in the Yellow Creek area and I reminded her that Dickson County was formed from Montgomery Co. in 1803.

Friends: Be sure to keep the county formation dates in mind when researching. You may find your ancestor living in two to four different counties in a lifespan, without them ever having moved from one spot. Everyone needs Handy Book.
