    Mason Odell Wells
    NOVEMBER 14, 1929 – JULY 19, 2012
    Mason O. Wells of Oceanside, California, formally of Southhold died at his home on July 19, 2012. He was 81 years old.
    He was born November 14, 1929 in Grand Island, Nebraska, then moved to Hillsdale, Michigan where he was raised by his grandparents, Ada and Dr. John M. Wells. During this time, they summered at the family farm on Skunk Lane Cutchogue, Long Island. After his grandfather retired they moved to Cutchogue, where Mason met and married his wife Geraldine Smith from Greenport, Long Island in 1950.

    During his time on the east end of Long Island, Mason played on the Greenport Rams, a semipro football team, worked on the bunker boats as a Pilot. He was Captain of Packard Hose Co. Southold Fire Dept. and Captain of their Racing Team. He was a partner with his brother-in-law Joseph Smith in a masonry construction Co. After that he was a partner in Uhl & Wells, a general construction Co., building houses and small commerical buildings. After leaving Uhl & Wells, he worked as a construction superintendent on many projects on Long Island. He was asked to supervise the construction of a hospital for the Offutt Air Force base in Omaha, Nebraska. Upon completion he was offered a job in the San Diego, California area from there he retired.

    He was a very proud of his heritage; his family was a direct decedent of the first settlers of Cutchogue, Long Island. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine, two daughters, Constance of Vista, California and karen of Southold, New York, two sons, David and Spencer both of Vista, California.

    Mason's cremated remains will be interred at the family plot (Barnabus T. Billard) at Methodist Church of Cutchogue to be with his grandparents
