It devolves upon us this week to announce the death of Capt. BEN. WELLS, of this vicinity, which occurred on the 26th of October. His departure was sudden and unexpected. He had been slightly indisposed, but was out last Friday, attending to business on his farm. Saturday morning he arose, complaining of feeling unwell, but went out to prepare some wheat for seeding. Feeling worse, he returned to the house, took a seat by the fire, and in a few minutes was a corpse. Capt. Wells was born in Hawkins county, in this State, and came to McMinn in 1833, where he resided ever since. He was an industrious, hard-working man, of unexceptional morals, and as true as steel. Respected by all who knew him, his death will be sincerely regretted by a large circle of friends and acquaintances. We tender our sympathy to the afflicted family.
