Enrolled April 10, 1862 at Atlanta, GA. He was captured at the battle of Champion's Hill, Mississippi on May 16, 1863 and sent to Fort Delaware military prison. He was exchanged in July 1863. He surrendered with his unit on May 1, 1865 at Greensboro, North Carolina.
He was a member of the Stone Mountain Masonic Lodge.
