MANCHESTER -- Mabel I. (Murgatroy) Emmons, 97, died March 5, 2011, at Ridgewood Health Care in Bedford.
She was born in New Hampton on March 4, 1914, to Edwin C. and Ida (Baker) Wells. She attended school in Bristol. She was the widow of Fred Emmons, who died in 2005.
She was married to Bernard B. Murgatroy and their first son, Howard, was born in 1934. They later moved to Plymouth, where their second son, Clifford, was born in 1943.
She taught Sunday School in the Plymouth Congregational Church. She was a member of the church choir. She moved to Bedford in 2006. She attended the Bedford Presbyterian Church. She also attended the First Baptist Church in Manchester. She was employed as a representative with Avon products for more than 40 years.
She liked to snowshoe, go cross country skiing, hiking, fishing and boating on Squam Lake. She watched the filming of "On Golden Pond" in the Lakes Region.
IN HER LIFE: She traveled to Germany for a month to visit with her niece, Rev. Holly Johnston. She also traveled to Israel with another niece, Louise Foote. Her last trip was to Alaska by train and cruise ship. She loved her plants and flowers. While at the Meetinghouse, she looked after the many outdoor plants through the late Fall.
Members of the family include one son, Clifford B., and his wife Catherine Murgatroy of Manchester; and one brother, Ralph Wells of Coeur D Alene, Idaho.
She was predeceased by a son, Howard Murgatroy.
She had two grandchildren, Scot and his wife Nicki Murgatroy, and Amy and her husband Peter Pryor. Also, two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Alyson Murgatroy, and a soon-to-be-born great-grandchild Pryor.
SERVICES: There are no calling hours. The funeral service will be held on June 23 at 10 a.m. in the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, 4 Post Office Sq., Plymouth.
Burial will be held in the Homeland Cemetery, Bristol. Memorial contributions may be sent to the NH Audubon, 3 Silk Farm Rd., Concord 03301.
The Cain & Janosz Funeral Home, Manchester, will be handling arrangements for the family.
