    MRS. WELLS DIES AT AGE 98

    Mrs. Edith E. Grummitt Wells, 98, of 202 Sunset Dr. member of a Lake Co. pioneer family, died Tuesday afternoon in her home after a lengthy illness.

    Mrs. Wells was born Dec. 19, 1861 , on a farm north of Diamond Lake, in Libertyville Township. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. William Grummitt, early settlers who came here from England. A resident in this area most of her life, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a charter member of its Ladies Aid, a charter member of Excelsior Camp of the Royal Neighbors and a member and past president of District 3, Rebekah lodge.

    Survivors include two daughters: Mrs. Warren A. (Ruth) Nicholas with whom she lived and Mrs Linna Corlett also of Libertyville. three sons: Worden of Elgin, ILL., Rex of St. Charles, and Edgar of Libertyville, seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Edgar H. in 1933, a son William G. and a daughter Mrs. Harry (Faye) Rouse.

    Friends may call at Ray-Burnett Funeral Home after seven PM today (Wednesday). Services will be held at 2PM Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ray Jenney officiating. Burial will be Lakeside Cermetery.

    Funeral Services for Rex E. Wells, 83, of 506 South 6th, Ave. will be held at Yurs Funeral Home on Thursday at 2pm with Rev. Edwin Remaly of the St. Charles Congregational Church officiating.
    Friends may call at the Yurs Funeral Home at Wednesday at 2pm. The Masonic Services will be read at 8pm on Wednesday night.
    Mr. Wells died on Tuesday afternoon at the Delnor Hospital.
    He was born on February 16, 1887 in Libertyville.
    Until his retirement on January 1st of this year, Mr. Wells was associated with the Duncan Parking Meter Company of Elk Grove.
    Mr. Wells was a member of the St. Charles Congregational Church, a 50yr member of the Unity Lodge A.F.& A.M. No. 48, the Fox Valley Shriners Club, and the Elks Lodge 737 of Elgin. He had served the city of St. Charles as a chairman and member of the Planning Commission and was a member of the Fox Valley Area Safety Council of the Chicago Motor Club.
    Survivors are his wife, Wilda B. two brothers: Worden Y. Wells of Elgin and Edward Wells of Lake Forest, a sister Mrs. Warren Nicholas of Libertyville, one niece and five nephews.

    Died at his residence in this township, of pleuro-pneumonia, Worden Yates Wells, on Tuesday April 20, 1880. An old resident of Howard County. He was elected one of the first Justices-of-the-Peace for Howard Co. in April, 1857. Leaves to mourn his wife, Orsavilla and 13 children. Six sons: George Worden, Cameron Paul, Benjamin Francis, twins Edgar Higby and Egbert Hatch, and Ferdinand Oscar. Seven daughters: Lucy Ann Huey, Elizabeth Pauline Simes, Almira Thankful Jerred, Geneva Mae Palmerton, Mary Blanche Jerred, Carrie Orsavilla Harden, and Jessie Edith Butler. A seventh son Ernest Walter died in 1866.

  • Burial*: 19 February 1905; Shrontz Cemetery, Momence, Kankakee Co., Illinois, USA; Wm. H. Wells was born in Pennsylvania March 27, 1832, and died in Momence, Ill., Feb. 19, 1905, aged 72 years, 10 months and 22 days. In his boyhood he moved to Kent County, Mich, where the greater part of his life was spent. He learned the sawmill business and became an expert in this line of work which he followed for many years.
    In 1863, he was married to Miss Amanda L. Lavis, and to them six children ere bon, but only one, Orson H, with the wife and other survives.
    Early in life the deceased became a Christian and joined the Baptist church, and remained a faithful member until death. He was a good citizen and a true friend and he lived past three score and ten.
    The funeral was held at the Baptist church, Monday, conducted by Rev. E.A.E. Palmquist, and burial took place in Shrontz cemetery.
