The Wells Family

Cap. Samuel Wells, veteran of the French and Indian war and Captain in the Regiment of Col. Wm. Oldhas during the American Revlolution, came to what is now Shelby Co., Ky. in 1779 with Capt. Baland Ballard and others. He was with Ballard at Tick Creek during all, or part of that year. (See record of mr. Ballard Thrtuston, Filson Club). The known children of Capt. Wells were, Carty, Haden, Samuel, Yelverton, Payton, Elizabeth and William.

In the Spring of 1780 Carty Wells came to his father from Prince William Co., Virginia. With him he brought his two younger brothers, his sister, his wife and young family. Together with his fathers personalty, his slaves, and his xxx they built the Captain Samuel Station. Then, at the April Court of Jefferson Co., in 1782, Samuel Wells qualified as administrator of the Captain Wells Estate. (Wells deceased) by giving bond for ninety thousand pounds.

Captain Wells' son Carty married Peggy (Margaret) Bush, of Culpepper Co., VA. They were the parents of seven children, five daughters and two sons. Haden, born August 8, 1775 and John born July 11, 1780 in Wells Station, in what is now Shelby Co., Ky. John Wells was, for a time, the Representative of Shelby Co., in the Legislature. Haden married Nancy Ford (April 5, 1804) daughter of Elicha Ford Veteran of the American Revolution (see. Shelby Co. Pension Record). These the great grandparents of Guy S. Wells and Mr. W. J.
