Daniel Wells was born 12 May 1744² in Deerfield, Franklin Co., Massachsetts died 16 Sep 1823 (Athens, Windham Co., Vermont or Shawneetown, Illinois). According to some researchers he married Rachel Nims between 1770 and 1774 as their first child, Joel Wells, was born 01 Aug 1775.

Other researchers have claimed that he married Rhoda Newton, but the evidence strongly suggests this is not correct.
