items. Jonathan Wells who wrote all but the last two items is the "Father Wells" whose death was recorded by
the eldest son Thomas, who signed his initials "T.W.]

[The handwriting of the list given above is uniform except for the last two lines. Jonathan Wells died in 1780 and could not have written the record of Judah's birth, and evidentaly did not write the record of Esther's birth. The deaths of Sylvester, April 1, 1785, and of Israel, March 18, 1819, are the next recorded; and then the birth, October 31, 1798, and death, January 24, 1814, of Honor Wells. Among the remaining items on the page, the following two are of interest, the first written by Jonathan and the second by Thomas.]
Olive Wells the mother of the above written names was born september the seventh Day 174 [sic.? 1714].
Mother Wells died March 1797. Aged 82 years old.
From pages 134 and 135:
Thomas Wells Died March 17, 1818. he was Seventy five years, & three months of Age.
Asahel Wells Died January thirtee day 1829 Age 57.
Olive Wells Died July 9, day, 1838. She was 87 years ten months of Age.
From page 142:
Judah Wells was born October 4, 1782. Frances Thrasher was born april the 20, 1786. Judah Wells and Frances Thrasher Was Mairred september the 19, 1808.
Eli Newton Wells was born December 20 1809.
Loren Clark Wells was Born October the fourth Day 1811.
Philena Maria Wells was born October 29 1812.
Asahel Clark Wells was Born August the 23 1822.
Betsey Wells Was Born July 10 1780
Loren Clark Died December the 29 1811. he was two months and twenty five days old.
Fanny Wells Died June the 7th 1825. She was thirty nine years and one month and Seventeen days old.
Philena Maria (Wells) Gray Died March 30, 1846. aged 33 years 5 months & 5 days.
[Further notes and comments: The Betsey Wells, referred to on page 142 of the account book, was the second
wife of Judah Wells. Judah's first wife, Frances Thrasher, died, as indicated above, June 7, 1825. Judah and Betsy
Gleason were married in July 1827. They had no children. Betsey died Sept. 28, 1857, and is buried in Bakersfield, Vt.
From information given in the account book together with the together with the Vital Records of Deerfield, Mass., town clerks records
in Guilford and Athens, Vt., cemetery records in Bakersfield, Vt., etc. the account book,
records as given above may be supplemented somewhat. The wife of Jonathan Wells, the first owner of the account book, was
Abigail Dickinson.

The wife of Thomas Wells, the second owner of the account book, was Olive Newton. Jonathan Wells apparently lived in Deerfield, Mass. in 1754, when he began to keep accounts in the book. As early as 1789 his son Thomas lived in Guilford, Vt. and a few years later in Athens, Vt. In 1827 Judah Wells with his children moved to Bakersfield, Vt.]
